Tom at 18 months

We had Tom's 18 month check up today. It was just about a month late, due to various sinus infections and pink eye run ins. I just wanted to post a quick update on his "stats".

Height: 45% (I guess my dreams of a 6'11" basketball player will have to wait)
Weight: 55% (He is right in the middle, which is surprising with all the ear infections)
Head Size: 90%!!!! (The kid has a HUGE head. It looks like an orange on a toothpick.)

That last line was from one of my favorite movies, "So I Married an Axe Murderer".

Scary Few Hours

So, not even a week after I say how great Emily is doing with this current pregnancy (see below), we had a little scare. Some of you know that Emily's school is closing down after this year. This is her last full week teaching there and usually they pack up a little, move some stuff off the floor, then head out. Well, because her school is closing, the teachers have to pack everything up and move it out. As you can imagine, after 10 years of teaching in the same room, Emily has quite a bit of stuff there. On Tuesday, she started the process of getting that stuff out. While doing that, she pulled her groin muscle, or so she thought. By the time she got home, she could barely walk up the steps. We had some dinner, then she went to bed. Around 4 in the morning, her stomach started cramping, this kept her up until it was time to go to school. The "cramps" continued all morning long, so we decided to go see the OB/GYN. It was a good move.

Turns out, Emily was having contractions, although they were pretty far apart. The doctor checked her out, said not to worry, the baby looks good and to take it easy. It all sounds so routine, but we were a little concerned. Fortunately, we are headed to Florida for a week, starting next weekend, so the "taking it easy" part should not be too hard. The lesson I learned is to not talk about how great everything is going on the blog. Yes, I am superstitious.

Baby Girl A at 30 Weeks

Here is where Emily and Baby Girl Anderson are, in terms of development:

Fetus in seventh month: The light is visible at the end of the tunnel! Your oversized self and amazing growing baby have finally reached the single digits (in terms of weeks till birth)! The fine lanugo hair that has been growing all over their little monkey-like body is going to start falling off this week in preparation for the big day. But don’t be shocked if they’re hairier than you’d anticipated, some babies keep their lanugo until after birth. Still, it’s not any cause to be concerned as it will fall off eventually. No surprises here: your little porker is getting even cuter with increasingly pudgy arms and legs this week thanks to the ever-growing layers of subcutaneous fat. In terms of numbers, your baby should be weighing in at around 3 pounds 12 ounces (or more!) and be nearly 16 inches long.

Interesting, no? Emily has been doing pretty well during this pregnancy. We feel a little bad because it is hard to focus on the baby in her belly when we have a walking talking 1 and a half year old to deal with out here in the real world. Hopefully we don't have a future "Jan Brady" situation with the 2nd born feeling overlooked and forgotten. I know, once she is actually here, it will be near impossible to overlook her. She may be our 2nd child, but she is our first girl!

Mother's Day

Today we celebrated Mom. Thomas gave Mom the best gift ever...extra sleep! This morning he did not get up until 7 (which is 30 minutes longer than usual). He came down to the kitchen with me and made breakfast (sausage, cheesy-garlic eggs, bagel and juice). Mom came down around 9 and enjoyed her peaceful breakfast as Tom watched Elmo. After we were all finished, we took a walk over to Sawyer Point and to one of the best playgrounds Tom has seen. Here are some pictures from the day.

When we got back from playing, Thomas had a nice lunch with Mom, then gave her his second gift...a 3 hour nap!!! I was not joking when I said that was the best gift ever. Tom knows his mommy and knows how much she likes extra sleep, especially now.

When he finally woke up, we headed over to John and Tricia's house for some delicious homemade pizza and cake. I think it was just about the perfect day. (The Reds did lose, as did Tiger, so almost perfect).

3:38:30

That was my time this year in the Pig. It was my fastest marathon to date, that is the good news. The bad news was, in my attempt to run my fastest marathon, I shot out of the gate way way too fast and was barely moving for the last 4 - 5 miles of the race. Here is a video Emily took of me at mile 22. I was getting ready to quit at this point, as evidenced by me flinging off my head band and just stopping. I still had 4 miles to go!!!

I apologize for the sideways view here, but the fun stuff is at the end when Tom starts clapping. I think that was what kept me going. It was the first time I cracked a smile the whole morning. Anyway, I feel fine today (a day later) and am happy with my time. Here are a few more pictures of the day.

Sad Day

Today was a sad day for Thomas. It was his last day at daycare, at least for the next year. It is funny how things changed over the past few months. When we first started taking him to Abbys, no one was very happy about it. Tom did not like being separated from us, and we did not like leaving him with strangers. Add on top of that his constant ear infections and us having to pay for daycare that was not being used due to those ear infections, it was not a good situation.

Well, today showed how far we have come and how much daycare was a part of Tom's life. His teacher, Miss Claudia, started crying when I told her it was Tom's last day. She has really grown to love our little guy. Even the ladies who watched him in the "crawlers" room were upset. If you look at the picture below, you can see, Tom has a sad little look on his face. All these ladies crying around him made him sad too. The people at Abbys were very good to Tom and we are going to miss them. Now Gramma and GG take over, at least for the month of May. I wonder if Tom will mind all the extra attention on him? :)
Tom gets ready for breakfast at Abbys. That is his buddy, Jake, across from him. They have the same shoes and the same cut on their foreheads. Tom just knew something was up, look at his sad little face.
