What Not To Say.....(Chapter 3)

It's been awhile since I have updated everyone on my never ending quest to put my foot in my mouth. Here are some of the latest and greatest directly from my mouth to Emily's ears to this blog.

The Situation: Emily has a girls' night out and I will be watching Tom from 6 to ?.
The Comment: "How am I supposed to eat and watch him at the same time?"
The Reaction: Shocked laughter, followed by a quick mocking and walking out the door.
The Analysis: Emily eats pretty much every meal while watching Tom and does just fine. My question was stupid on two accounts. It is easy to eat and watch him at the same time, just eat and watch him. Second, how hungry was I? Seriously. That might have been one of my dumber moments.

The Situation: A couple of late nights (in bed at 12, WOOHOO!) in a row, due to good basketball games being on, lead to a slightly tired and grumpy Patrick coming home after a long day at work.
The Comment: "Man, I don't know if I can handle not getting some solid sleep for another night tonight. Do you mind taking care of Tom while I get a nap?"
The Reaction: Stunned silence.
The Analysis: If your wife is breast feeding and you have a baby that does not sleep well, just keep your mouth shut about being tired. I can not stress this enough. If you are getting even 4 hours of consecutive sleep, it is more than your breast feeding wife is getting, so SHUT IT!

The Situation: Tom and I sit down for some good one on one, father/son time, when suddenly he just spits up all over me. He thought it was funny, I was less than excited about the whole thing.
The Comment: "I am covered in spit up, what am I supposed to do now?"
The Reaction: This has become one of Emily's favorite sayings..."Welcome to my world!"
The Analysis: This wasn't the first time he spit up on me, but usually he does it right after he eats, so I am ready for it. It had been a good 45 minutes since his last meal, so the shock of all this spit up flashing all over me was just too much at that moment. Since this occasion, he has also managed to pee in my face, so by comparison, this wasn't all that bad.

Roll On

Thomas continues to amaze us. This week he decided it was time to start rolling over from his back to his side and almost to his stomach. While this is a great developmental moment for him, it is also the next thing, in a long list of things, that we now over worry about when we put him to bed at night. We tend to be fine at first, he is getting a lot better with the night time sleeping. After 30 minutes of blissful silence, one of us gets worried and decides we better go make sure he has not flipped onto his stomach and can't get back over on his back. This will go on a few times until we go to bed.
So, just to recount for you all, the first 2 months of Tom's life we fought the "not sleeping at night, crying himself to sleep" battle. That was very mentally taxing and not much fun. All we wanted was for him to just fall asleep within 10 minutes of us putting him down, instead of crying himself to sleep for 30 minutes. Now, he is actually starting to sleep right when we put him down, but we start to worry because he is too quiet and it is too easy to get him to sleep and he can roll onto his stomach, which is not a good position for a sleeping baby. It is quite the see-saw of emotions over at the Anderson household. All in all, though, it is so much fun to watch him go through these changes. We can't wait for the next big development so we can over think and over worry about what kind of trouble he could get into with his new "skill".
Neurotically yours ---Tom's Dad.

18 years from now these won't be funny or cute...

Just embarrassing for Tom. Will that stop me from posting the following pictures? Yeah right.

So, Thomas graduated from taking a bath in the sink, to actually getting in the regular tub, in his special bath tub chair, mind you. I am not sure how most babies react, but he loves bath time. He splashes and smiles and has a good old time. I was happy that he moved out of the sink becuase he would bang his feet against the side and it really didn't seem too comfortable for him. Now he just relaxes in his chair and soaks up the atmosphere....get it, soaks up, in the tub. Very punny, I know.

What's up with me?

First off, Happy Valentine's Day to everyone. No major plans for Emily and I. Getting some Indian food and watching Lost while Thomas, hopefully, sleeps. A relaxing night at home.

Second, I added a new link to another blog. My brother-in-law, Brian, has started a blog which focuses mostly on football and sports topics, but there is the occasional recipe or song review as well.

Finally, I thought I would just update everyone on what I have been up to lately. Believe it or not, I am training for the Flying Pig Marathon. I know, shocking! This year I am training with my good friend John Gonsior. This will be his first marathon. We are about 7 weeks in to the training now, and things are going well. So far the longest run we have done is 14 miles. In the next few weeks we will be doing a 17 and then an 18 mile run, so wish us luck, this is the hard part.

I had mentioned my fantasy football leagues awhile ago, and didn't update everyone on how I was doing (you're welcome). Well, I finished in 2nd place in my league and actually won the playoffs in Matt's league...not too shabby. I will be offering my expert advice next season, for a minimal fee.

So, that's about it. Now you can see why I don't write that much about my life, pretty crazy stuff, right?

I will have some more Tom pictures tomorrow. These particular pictures will be embarrassing to Tom in a few years, but right now they are just too fun.

Quick Post

Just wanted to update Thomas' stat sheet. He had a doctor's appointment on Friday, got his Polio shot, and he is now up to the following:
15 pounds 1 ounce
25.5 inches long

He can hold his head up on his own, smiles a lot, and is starting to get the whole sleep thing at night. He also can now roll from his stomach to his back. He will be driving soon enough!

Thomas Meets the Ocean

Here are the pictures of Tom from his Florida get-away. Notice there are none of dad.....I was smart and left Florida before the weather got good. I LOVE THE COLD AND SNOW!
